“I can do more”: turning a sense of potential into a concrete question
Comparing yourself with an imagined version of yourself rarely tells you what to do today.
Define what “more” means
More income, independence, creative work and influence are different questions. Complete “I want more…” in several ways. Choose the one you are willing to discuss and explore through action.
Separate ability from circumstances
What you can do, what you want and what circumstances currently allow are different parts of the question. List your experience, interest, available time and necessary agreements separately. This can make the missing part of the next step clearer.
Choose something you can test
Define a limited task with a concrete action and a period for reflection. Instead of “fulfil my potential”, test one idea, discuss one role or complete a small project. Decide beforehand how you will reflect on the experience, including whether the work itself suits you.
Pause and reflect
- What exactly do I want more of?
- Which abilities and circumstances are already available?
- Which one idea am I willing to test?
Would you like to explore your situation?
