“I want to understand myself”: where to begin

Make the question more concrete through your own decisions, interests and strengths in real situations.

Do not search for a final definition

Understanding yourself does not have to mean discovering one calling or creating a perfect portrait. Begin with a few episodes: when you were interested, what came more naturally and which tasks you wanted to continue without an external assessment.

Look at strengths in action

Instead of asking whether you are talented in general, choose a particular task. What did you notice? What did you do? What contribution did others appreciate? Which conditions helped? This anchors the conversation in observations rather than a label.

Leave room to test an idea

An idea about yourself can be explored through a small action. Liking the idea of an activity and enjoying the work itself can differ. A trial helps you notice that difference without committing to a new career or way of life.

QUESTIONS TO REFLECT ON

Pause and reflect

  • In which situations do I recognise myself?
  • What do I know how to do but rarely value?
  • Which beliefs about myself have I not yet tested?
