When your old life no longer fits, but the next one is unclear

You do not have to begin with a major decision. The first step may be naming what no longer works for you.

Name what no longer fits

“I want to change everything” can contain several questions: a role that feels too narrow, an unsuitable pace, other people’s expectations or a long-postponed wish. Describe one ordinary day and identify the moments you no longer want to repeat. This gives a conversation a clearer starting point than judging your whole life at once.

Separate the wish from the ready-made answer

A new job, a move or a relationship can seem like an obvious solution. Before choosing its form, ask what you want it to bring: independence, closeness, interest, recognition or a different rhythm. A single wish can have several possible routes.

Take a step that does not have to solve everything

Choose a small, reversible step: a conversation, trying an activity or reconsidering one commitment. Decide beforehand what you want to notice. It does not have to become your new life; it may simply provide missing information.

QUESTIONS TO REFLECT ON

Pause and reflect

  • What do I definitely no longer want to keep?
  • What remains valuable in my present life?
  • What small step would help me learn more about what I want?
